The first university in Korea founded by the Korea Mission of the Southern Presbyterian Church in America

Daejeon University

대전대학 1956~1970
한남대학교는 1956년 4월, 재단법인 미국 남장로교 한국선교회유지재단(이사장 인돈 William A. Linton)에 의해 4년제 대전기독학관으로 설립되었다. 1959년 4월, 정규 대학으로 승격, 대전대학인가를 받고 초대 학장에 인돈 박사가 취임하였다(성문, 영문, 화학, 수물학과 정원 480명).
Hannam University was established as Daejeon Christian School with 4-year programs by the Korean Mission of the Presbyterian Church in America Foundation (Chief Director: William A. Linton) in April, 1956. In April 1959, the school was raised to the status of a regular university and was given the license to be named as Daejeon University. Dr. Linton was inaugurated as the first President.

Soongjeon University

숭전대학교 1970~1982
1970년 9월, 소수 정예의 질적 교육에 치중하던 본교는 설립목적과 이념이 동일한 서울 소재 숭실대학과 통합, 교명을 숭전대학교 (숭실의 ‘崇’ 자와 대전의 ‘田’ 자를 택함)로 하고 한국 최초의 양 캠퍼스 체제로 운영되었다.
In September 1970, the school, which had been dedicated to providing quality education for a small number of students, was consolidated with Soongsil University located in Seoul, which had the same objectives and philosophy in its establishment; accordingly, the name of the school was changed to Soongjeon University (taking ‘Soong’ from Soongsil and ‘jeon’ from Daejeon) and the new school was operated under a two-campus system for the first time in Korea.

1956년 대전대학(대전기독학관)으로 설립된 한남대학교는
1970년 숭실대학교와 통합하여 숭전대학교로,
1982년 다시 분리되어 지금의 한남대학교로 교명이 변경되었다.

Hannam University was established as Daejeon University (Daejeon Christian School) in 1956.
In 1970, it was consolidated with Soongsil University and changed its name Soongjeon University,
which was changed again to Hannam University in 1982.

한남대학교 1982~현재
한남대학교는 지역사회와 구성원들의 요구에 의해 ‘학교법인 대전기독학원’을 설립하고 1982년 12월, 교명을 한남대학으로 개칭하였다. 본교는5개 대학원, 9개 단과대학, 1개 독립학부, 54개 학과(전공)를 갖추고, 부속기관 5개, 부설연구원 2개, 정책연구소 11개, 세계 48개국에 270개 자매대학과 교류하고 있다. 교지는 총 13만여 평, 교사는 총 3만 8천여 평이며, 부대시설로서 1,600명을 수용하는 성지관(대강당)과 첨단강의동을 갖춘 56주년기념관, 전국 대학 최초 FIFA 2스타 공인 잔디구장인 종합운동장 등이 있다. 또한, 2005년 대덕연구단지의 중심에 2만 8천여 평의 대덕밸리 캠퍼스를 조성하였다. 2024년까지 캠퍼스 내 도시첨단산업단지를 조성해 정보통신, 문화 콘텐츠, 바이오 기술 등을 중심으로 250개 기업을 입주시키고 1천500여개 일자리를 창출해 산학연 협력 거점 대학의 기능을 수행할 계획이다.
Hannam University was first established as the Daejeon Christin Academy in response to requests from the local community and its members, and changed its name to Hannam College in December, 1982. HNU consists of 5 graduate schools, 9 colleges, 1 independent faculties, and 54 departments(majors), in addition to 5 affiliated institutions, 2 research institutes, 11 policy research institutes, and 270 sister universities in 48 countries. Our campus is approximately 430,000㎡ and our school buildings are approximately 125,000㎡ in total. Additional facilities include the large auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,600, the 56th Anniversary Building that’s equipped with an advanced lecture hall, and the nation’s first FIFA 2-star certified sports field. Moreover, we established the Daedeok Valley Campus in 2005, a 92,500㎡ campus located at the heart of the Daedeok Science Town.
In addition, Hannam University will establish an urban high-tech industrial complex on campus by 2024, focusing on information and communication, cultural contents, and biotechnology. It plans to function as a base university for industry-academia cooperation by moving in 250 companies and creating more than 1,500 jobs.
